Weds 14thDecember7.30 for 8 pmWinter Social at Simon's house. The evening will include a short committee meeting.
Weds 18thJanuary 8 pm Essex Historic Maps by Peter Walker Following the first talk he gave in March 2019, where he spoke about the early history of surveying and map making in Essex, Peter will be taking 1805 as his starting point and no doubt speaking extensively on the establishment and operation of the Ordnance Survey, all with a distintly local focus (as anyone present at the first talk will attest)

Weds 15th February 8 pm FUNGI a talk by Sarah Manning. Sarah is an accomplished amateur mycologist and the Fungi recorder for Colchester Natural History Society.

Fungi - a beginner's guide (Poster)

Weds 15th March 8 pm Red Squirrels of Mersea Island a talk by Dougal Urquhart. Some may know Dougal as the former long-serving ranger at Cudmore Grove country park on Mersea (he also covered Chalkney Wood near Earls Colne) but he is also currently president of the Colchester Natural History Society, an eminent birder and moth expert and an all-round nice bloke. He also maintains an interesting blog observing the wildlife of his local patch (http://merseawildlife.blogspot.com) which is worth a look, especially if you are planning a visit to the island.

Weds 26th April7 pm Cowslip Count. Meet at the Tarecroft Wood car park. (If we have a cold, slow spring we can always defer this for a week).
Cost: £2.00 at the door, includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
